Recognition of this day began after a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mysqltalk.wordpress.com\/2011\/11\/27\/challenge-accessibility-know-how-needs-to-go-mainstream-with-developers-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blog post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Joe Devon circulated the Internet in November 2011. According to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/globalaccessibilityawarenessday.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GAAD website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cthe purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) access\/inclusion and people with different disabilities.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one of ProctorU\u2019s recent blog posts, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.proctoru.com\/future-accessibility-higher-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Future of Accessibility in Higher Education<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Front- end Developer Scott Thigpen says that \u201cto ensure that ProctorU\u2019s services are easily utilized by students with vision impairment, ProctorU took it upon ourselves to make sure we cover the major VPAT\/WCAG compliance requirements. We also have 24\/7 phone and live chat support to accommodate most ADA needs.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/releases\/archives\/miscellaneous\/cb12-134.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Census Bureau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, about one in five people has a disability. The 20 percent of the American population who live with disabilities every day deserve to have unrestricted access to life just as their peers sans disability do.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is it so important for companies to adhere to accessibility rules and regulations? According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/releases\/archives\/miscellaneous\/cb12-134.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Census Bureau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, about one in five people has a disability. That\u2019s 20 percent of the American population who live with disabilities every day and deserve to have unrestricted access to life just as their peers sans disability do.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Losing customers is obviously not what businesses strive for, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/05\/17\/apple-ceo-tim-cook-accessibility-meetings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple CEO<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tim Cook has never thought about that aspect. Cook stated in a recent interview, \u201caccessibility is a human right. . .
