(Photo credit: ccarlstead\/Flickr)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a win for testing accessibility, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeboard.org\/releases\/2016\/college-board-simplifies-request-process-for-test-ccommodations\">the College Board announced on Dec. 1<\/a> that it will be simplifying\u00a0the process for qualified students to receive needed accommodations when taking College Board assessments. Those assessments\u00a0include\u00a0SAT\u00ae, PSAT\u212210, PSAT\/NMSQT\u00ae, SAT Subject Tests\u2122, and AP\u00ae Exams.<\/p>\n<p>School testing accommodation coordinators must\u00a0now answer only two questions in the affirmative for students to receive accommodations under the new policy. If the answer is yes to both\u00a0\u201cis the requested accommodation(s) in the student\u2019s plan,\u201d and \u201chas the student used the accommodation(s) for school testing,\u201d that student is instantly eligible to receive accommodations on their College Board exam. The new, expedited process is expected to reduce approval time for an &#8220;overwhelming majority of accommodation requests,&#8221; according to the College Board.<\/p>\n<p>The changes will go into effect by Jan. 1, 2017, and students who have accommodations at their school through a current\u00a0Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan will automatically have those accommodations approved under the new procedure.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/quicktakes\/2016\/12\/02\/college-boards-new-process-accommodations\">Inside Higher Ed<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>this change has been sought after for some time and the changes appear to have strengthened accessibility in traditional brick and mortar testing environments.<\/p>\n<p>What does the accessibility landscape look like for taking exams online?<\/p>\n<p>ProctorU, the largest live\u00a0online proctoring solution in the world, can accommodate individuals with most disabilities through one-on-one coordination with a student&#8217;s school. Because ProctorU\u00a0uses human proctors that\u00a0can interact with students in real time, the service is able to make unique accommodations. ProctorU\u00a0also maintains\u00a0a working Voluntary Product Assessment Template (VPAT), and is always\u00a0refining its service to meet accessibility standards.<\/p>\n<p>Users of the ProctorU service can select an integrated option that makes the entire ProctorU scheduling system accessible including larger buttons, all coloring removed, legible font size, keyboard controls and many other features.
